People would love to sword fight each other.Īfter a ship is successfully boarded it shouldn’t just remain dormant. To me this just seems like a no-brainer for a multi-player mode. When boarding ships he made it so you move into a sword fighting mode in which your performance in the sword fight effects the success of the boarding… and if you beat the captain you win. Sid Meier’s first game was a pirate game. You run into a ship with grappling hooks and if you have enough men and weapons you win, if you have enough men but not weapons, you get boarded, if you don’t have enough men, you get boarded. There should be a good reason to try and mix up your shots.īoarding of course is rather stale. Right now the only real option is destroying ships and boarding ships as strategies. Imagine a complex scenario in which you are losing all of your crew and your enemy is losing all of their sails, in which the winner of the battle could just end up being whoever has some sails left or some crew left. Once again this would make grape shot like attacks mean something. So why not make it a requirement to have men in a fight. All ships function exactly the same with or without men. They should be so useful that even the computer will want to use them. Chain balls should have a legitimate reason for being there that is useful. In Rise of Venice I could spray fire everywhere and that worked fine… but that’s because I could fire my canons regardless.

One of the problems I found was that snaring strategies are highly ineffective, that is chain shots. In the least a game that’s primarily about ships should have better combat than Assassin’s Creed 3… in which ship to ship combat is a mini-game you can ignore. So I’m writing this letter to come up with some suggestions.įirst and foremost, real combat. I actually enjoy that part of the game.īut everything else about these games… sucks… and you need to get these studios moving to fix it. The same core mechanic is to move the bar back and forth to profit and to construct businesses. This studio has made (at least) three games, Patrician IV, Port Royale 3, and Rise of Venice.Īs far as I can tell these games are all the exact same game. I’m more worried about that other gaming studio that makes simulation games, Gaming Minds. If it’s even possible I’ll send you money in advance just to beta test the game. I’m very excited about the new features being announced and look forward to buying this game. Haeimimont Games is a really great catch of a studio and despite Omerta: City of Gangsters being a heaping pile of crap, I still bought it in hopes that Tropico 5 was coming soon.Īnd as it turns out it is. I can count myself as your number one fan for making Tropico 4, the DLC and the expansion so great. Well Kalypso, it’s about time we have a talk about the general direction of your game development. Do you mind if I call you Kalypso? Good, feels like we’re on a first name basis now.
